A group of 26 pilot whales became stranded on Sunday, September 2 after entering a cove near Anstrother and Pittenweem in Scotland. Rescue workers including those from the coast guard, Fire Brigade, British Divers Marine Life Rescue and SSPCA and other local volunteers responded and worked hard to turn at least 10 whales back out to sea. At least 17 whales were not able to be rescued and died despite the efforts.
